Policy Solutions for Vermont
Legislative Resources
2026 Legislative Priorities
As Vermont enters a tight budget year, many transportation needs remain—from safer streets to reliable transit and clean vehicles. Transportation for Vermonters (T4VT) is focused on ensuring Vermont’s policies, programs, and staffing support affordable, sustainable mobility, and preventing further erosion of the essential services Vermonters rely on.
By prioritizing cost-effective investments and aligning transportation decisions with the state’s climate, housing, workforce, public health, and equity goals, the General Assembly can maximize existing resources, avoid added harm, and lay the groundwork for future investments in effective, inclusive, and resilient mobility solutions.
T4VT’s policy priorities are informed by our core values to:
Provide equitable access to transportation;
Improve public health and safety;
Reduce air and water pollution;
Foster walkable community centers; and
Meet Vermont's required carbon emission reductions.
2025 Legislative Summary
On Monday, June 2nd, Governor Phil Scott signed H.488, the Transportation bill (T-bill), into law. This year’s T-bill follows the Governor’s recommendation for transportation spending in FY2026 and upholds the status quo. While there were some good outcomes, many of T4VT’s most pressing priorities were not addressed.
The Miscellaneous Motor Vehicle bill or 'DMV bill' is another piece of transportation legislation that gets passed every year. This year's bill included important measures aimed at protecting the “x” gender option on drivers licenses and bike safety updates along with an educational campaign.
T4VT will continue to advocate for transportation spending that supports a system that is aligned with Vermont and Vermonters goals of affordability, equity, health, and resilience.
